October 12, 2017:  CACAGNY Hosts Nicole Malliotakis,

NYC Mayoral Candidate, on Chinatown Tour

Announcement

The Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater N.Y. (CACAGNY), the advocacy group for Chinese Americans, will take Nicole Malliotakis on an informational tour of Chinatown on Thursday, October 12, 2017.  The tour will begin at Joy Luck Restaurant on 98 Mott Street at 1:00PM, and proceed to the American Legion Lt. B. R. Kimlau Chinese Memorial Post on 193 Canal Street. The tour will end at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association on 62 Mott Street, where a question and answer session will be held.

Ms. Malliotakis is the Republican candidate running for Mayor of New York City against Bill De Blasio

Ms. Malliotakis will be asked to reaffirm her support for the SHSAT admission exam for the Specialized High Schools.  Bill De Blasio is on record as wanting to dismantle the SHSAT.  The SHSAT is the sole means for many Chinese American students to receive an excellent high school education in New York City.

CACAGNY believes that politicizing and racializing over just 8 high schools never has, and never will, solve the problem of widespread educational failure in New York City's communities. Instead of lowering standards at the eight Specialized High Schools by dismantling the SHSAT, New York City should try to raise the quality of education it provides at the 700+ high school programs it has so dismally run for so long.

The Press is invited to join us at the restaurant, on the tour and at the question and answer sessions at the end of the tour.
